The Price of Citizenship is an exhibition experience within Te Rau Aroha, the newly established museum on the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. It tells stories of Māori involvement in conflict from 1840 to today and the Māori struggle for equal rights as citizens of Aotearoa.

Responsible for the design, development and production of all aspects of the exhibition and attention to detail that responds to the powerful stories being told; large projection elements enhance the stories and gives them life. Considered textural details – timber detailing,

kauri gum, running water – encourage a tactile visitor experience.

The inclusion of a flexible exhibition space dedicated to 28 (Māori) Battalion A Company responds to the needs of Northland tangata whenua. Here A Company taonga and stories are displayed and it is a place for ongoing research.

The serene memorial space with striking large-scale structural artwork pays tribute to members of the New Zealand (Māori) Pioneer Battalion and the 28 (Māori) Battalion, and provides a contemplative space for all who have experienced loss.
